  • sar replied to the topic Fibromyalgia and memory loss in the forum Health 3 months, 1 week ago

I have terrible problems with memory loss – have to write everything down, but can then loose my list! I cant remember words, names, what I am doing next etc. I hate it, it makes me feel so old and stupid.

  • Yea sounds very similar! Tension and stress may well play a part actually, have had a fair bit of that these last 7/8 weeks
The exercise is a good point too I’m only really going for a short walk with the dog and sorting horses whereas before I would have been riding most days too. I will try and up the activity for a bit and see if that helps. Thanks!

  • For the past 2/3 weeks I’ve noticed that when I lie flat on my back in bed for more than 10/15 mins I get a very severe pain right in the middle of my lower back. It’s so painful that it makes me gasp and I have to carefully turn round (I’m generally a stoic type lol) it also makes me limp really badly for the first half a dozen steps if I need to get straight out of bed. I am absolutely fine for the rest of the day, not a hint of a pain, and I do all my usual daily activities. It’s very strange. Anyone any experience of anything like this? I will mention it to my doctor next time I’m there but from previous experience I can’t imagine they will be much help. Or would it be a physio thing? It’s definitely a minor thing in the grand scheme of things because it disappears qu…[Read more]

  • sar replied to the topic Sports massage? Do they work? in the forum Health 3 months, 1 week ago

I started going for sports massage just before christmas and I actually can’t believe what a difference it’s made. I have a pin in my femur from a break 15 years ago and it’s given me issues ever since with pain around the knee, I’ve had several surgeries, loads of physio and been the gp lots of times and basically told I was as fixed as I was going to get so just do more exercise to strenghten the leg and ignore it. Unfortunately too much exercise leaves me hobbling round in agony!

I went and got my gait analyzed in November to try and improve my pain and the guy there suggested a sports massage might help. I had no clue what that involved or what to expect but found a lady local to me and she is fab. I’ve barely had any knee pain since I started going, I have an hour about once…[Read more]

Remember when you were at school. The girl who grew boobs 1st became the popular girl. The boy who grew taller and stronger first became the sports hero. When it came to being chosen for things the ‘popular’ kids got chosen for everything 1st. Life was a popularity contest and those not blessed with big boobs or long legs just blended in and tried to make the best of things and followed in their wake.

Well politics is a bit like school was. But these people haven’t got the benfit of having the biggest boobs or longest legs. They have to use something else to make them popular. That’s where lies comes into it. There was always kids at school who would say anything to be popular. Their dad was tarzan, their mum was the queen etc etc. Anything to get friends. Well guess…[Read more]

  • Slightly different but… I lived in Cyprus and used to enjoy going over the North for short breaks, day trips, meals out etc. For those who don’t know, you have to go through border control and have a separate piece of paper stamped to keep in your passport and if driving, you buy separate insurance.

So on one of many jaunts, with friends and a couple of holiday makers we decided to park in Nicosia and walk through border control. My friend was faffing about parking legally and I made a joke about not getting parking tickets but being stopped for speeding occasionally.

So at border control we stood in the queue as it was a busy Saturday and I get to my turn, the officer looks at my passport, summons the guard (looking ferocious as usual with a gun) and I get told I have a…[Read more]

You could argue that a larger portion of society benefit from the bin emptier (could be female!) than benefit from the heart surgeon.

I also think you are likely to have more people who are keen to be heart surgeons than bin emptiers

  • sar replied to the topic Non jobs in the forum General Chat 5 months, 1 week ago

I have always felt that cleaners, carers and the like should be the highest paid! They are proper hard work and often unpleasant. It always seems wrong that those that work the hardest often get paid the least.

  • sar replied to the topic Rotator Cuff tear…. in the forum Health 5 months, 2 weeks ago

Have you had an mri ? Mr hubby tore his and needed surgery – but nhs took a year or more to get to the point of having mri and diagnosing the full extent of the damage.
6 weeks recovery and now has full use of the shoulder 🙂

  • Can I just ask you guys, did you feel better once you started on the vit d ?

I felt worse when I started on the GP protocol of Vit D3 only, it was high dose ones followed by blue Gel Caps. Then I read Vit D Wellness on Facebook and read the the blue caps can cause problems, and also you need K2 to utilise it.

I went onto their recommended capsules, with K2 as recommended and did feel better. Still felt bad though, so then went also onto B12, with Folate (not folic acid) to help utilise that too. My Dr had said my B12 was OK, but it was only around 400, which in most countries is considered deficient.

That did have me feeling better on a daily basis, so I read the Vit D Wellness protocols some more and added Magnesium, in 3 forms. With that too I lost a stone and a half in…[Read more]

  • @flyguy Interesting. Numbers being bandied about on the news are 82,000 (without much context) – I see Wiki has it at around 144000 (active/trained) in the army

It’s still shockingly low….. I mean it’s less than the US take to a tin pot warzone – even the French have 200,000+

  • Quite frankly the fact that our entire armed forces does not even total 100,000 is a disgrace. Living near Aldershot (home of the british army) it’s pretty clear we don’t really have an effective army anymore.

Having said that the war of the future won’t need soldiers – we’ll be flying exploding drones at each other. Unfortunately 80% of material resources and manufacturing in this area is based in china which means we’ve essentially already lost – I’m not sure we could up production to war levels even if there was the political/public will

Hopefully though when climate change really kicks in and water/food shortages are widespread the chinese and russians will be good world citizens and will leave us be

  • sar replied to the topic how to cure muscle spasms in back? in the forum Health 6 months ago

You have my sympathy, had this exact thing last year, the pain was unbearable, morphine etc made no difference.
A different Doctor gave me Diazepam (Valium) and it went away really quickly never to return thank goodness.
Has your Doctor given you a diagnosis that its spasms that you have, because I am surprised that he hasn’t given you a muscle relaxant.

  • sar replied to the topic I've given up diet drinks in the forum Health 6 months, 1 week ago

I rarely drink anything fizzy. Sets off my reflux, I’ve never been much of a diet drinker anyway.

  • I was on a much lower reading than you, my reading was too low to read! I started at 5,000, with Vitamin D3 5000 Iu, 240 Softgels, by Now vitamins. After a few weeks I upped it to two tablets, so 10,000 Iu.

The next test from my doctor, after 4 months I was low side of normal. I stayed on 10,000 all winter, tested as OK, so dropped to 5,000 for summer, with a few weeks break altogether. By the end of summer was high side of normal, yay!

Because I am higher doses two of the tests were from my GP, but I also took a private test through the NHS by post. You can buy it here https://www.sunvitd3.co.uk/product-category/blood-test-kits/

On the doses I am on you *could overdose, so I keep testing, but I feel awful if I let the levels drop.

You need vit D3 rather than D2, and it works…[Read more]

  • sar replied to the topic Extensor tendonitis in foot in the forum Health 6 months, 2 weeks ago

I had this about 5 years ago from running in the wrong trainers and it was agony. The only thing I’ll say that helped along side some exercises for it was acupuncture – I had two sessions a week on it for a few months and although expensive, it really worked.

  • sar replied to the topic How to get rid of Norovirus in the forum Health 6 months, 3 weeks ago

I have a legit phobia of viruses like this so going to be avoiding this thread from here on out! Had Norovirus once though- @guy actually you shouldn’t be consuming sugary things like lemonade as it ‘feeds’ the bug in your stomach etc.

Please ensure you stay out of society for at least 48 hrs after your last vomiting episode!
    good luck! x

  • sar replied to the topic Best pubs in the uk in the forum General Chat 6 months, 3 weeks ago

The Shipwreck Bar, South Friars Bay, St Kitts. Not as surreal as the Three Stags Head (a pub from Discworld) but with better weather.

I’m sure everyone has a Three Stags story.
Mine was a late Saturday afternoon after bouldering session. Went in with my dog who joined the pack of lurchers running a relay round the bar. Some tables piled up with pheasant and rabbit from the afternoon’s shoot and up for sale. Ordered a beer and chatted to the landlord about his latest pottery (his hobby) behind the bar. Guy behind me had forgotten to turn his phone to silent (schoolboy error). Some fruity words from the landlord that he and his party at the table should leave immediately. Like you say, Discworld!

There was one in the back end of Salford where some of my boxing mates used to go and it was full of dubious characters, until eventually it got fire-bombed. Gang wars I was told!
